“Early on we realised that if we wanted to truly transform peoples’ lives through their living environments, we needed to develop more deeply our fascination with, and knowledge of, the ‘science of silence’ – and then apply that expertise to our products and our process.”

How to Soundproof Windows in Your Hotel
Research shows providing guests with a good night’s sleep will increase bookings, reduce complaints and strengthen your hotel’s reputation.
One of the most cost-effective ways you can boost bookings is to join the growing number of soundproof hotels, particularly in town centres and near airports. Offering rooms with soundproof windows has, in fact, been identified as one of the industry’s key ways to increase hotel revenue.
By choosing Silent Windows soundproof windows from Hugo Carter, five-star hotels across London and other major cities in the UK have been able to offer clients a quiet, restful night’s sleep. In this guide to hotel room noise reduction, we will look at methods of soundproofing against aircraft noise, reducing anti-social noise and road noise reduction that have a proven positive impact.

How to Soundproof Windows Against Hotel Noise
If you’re asking how to reduce noise in a hotel room, the answer almost always includes the windows. The secret to creating soundproof hotel rooms is to stop excessive sound waves from reaching your guests.
Silent Windows is the award-winning UK brand of noise reduction windows and doors from Hugo Carter. We understand the value of your business reputation. If people stay at your hotel and are not disturbed, they are far more likely to give you a positive recommendation.
We also appreciate how damaging negative reviews because of hotel noise can be. Interrupted sleep is the Number 1 reason people complain. There were well over 10,000 Heathrow noise complaints in 2020 for example. Train station noises are also widely reported to cause customer dissatisfaction. Can you afford for your hotel to be part of the problem?
There are many ways to reduce noise in hotel rooms to acceptable levels, however, investing in bespoke soundproof windows designed by experts is proven to be one of the most effective.
Silent Windows by Hugo Carter is the leading UK supplier of award-winning noise reduction windows and doors. We specialise in creating soundproof hotel rooms and giving guests a quiet night’s sleep.
Imagine knowing that – from the moment your head hits the pillow – you’re more likely to be woken by a cat, a clock or your partner.
And that you will never again be woken by things outside that go ‘bump’ – or ‘vroom’ – in the night.
Now even the lightest sleepers can enjoy the deepest slumbers.
In these various ways, our bespoke design process can open up new possibilities for you and your home.
How do Hotels Soundproof Their Rooms?
Owners have tried many ways over the years to reduce hotel room noise and create the soundproof hotel rooms today’s customers demand. Double-glazing, for instance, may help but often does not go far enough in meeting the challenges faced by city-centre noise or hotels near airports. It will reduce noise by 30 decibels, at the most, which may not be enough to make a real difference.
Hoteliers have resorted to many other measures, even issuing guests with earplugs, but these hardly count as a permanent solution.
There is a solution that makes a significant difference to the level of tranquillity you can promise and deliver to your guests. Hugo Carter’s Silent Windows brand benefits from extensive knowledge and expertise in the science and technology of sleep.
We deliver soundproofing against aircraft noise, traffic noise, city-centre nightlife, anti-social behaviour, train noise and other potential causes of guest discomfort. In short, we apply the science of silence to reduce the noise levels in your hotel and improving the satisfaction of your guests.
The first thing our team does is complete a detailed hotel noise survey, analysing sources of noise and its effect on a room or a whole floor of the hotel. From this, we establish exactly where the sound is coming from. Our next step is to take measurements of the windows and doors, accurate to the millimetre so that the team at our factory can design and assemble fully effective bespoke windows.
We use engineered timber, noise reduction glass and specialist acoustic materials – as well as a unique installation method designed in conjunction with experts from the Institute of Acoustics, This makes sure our bespoke noise reduction solution makes a transformational difference.
Hotel Room Noise Reduction Increases Guest Satisfaction
When you run a hotel, noise is bad for business. It regularly tops the list of complaints at hotels in the UK. To reduce hotel noise complaints and improve guest satisfaction rates, we believe you should choose Hugo Carter and our award-winning range of Silent Windows.
Our initial visit to your hotel is by an engineer, not a salesman. They know how to soundproof a hotel room and will advise you about the best noise reduction options available to you.
When it comes to our products, nobody in the UK can offer you more advanced noise reduction windows. If you’re wondering how to increase hotel bookings, the outstanding craftsmanship that goes into every one of our bespoke windows and doors will give you the confidence to promote your hotel as soundproof.
We are experienced in the science of silence, with experts trained at the Institute of Acoustics. We have given great service to a string of five-star hotels in London and beyond by reducing noise by up to 55 decibels, helping guests sleep, and boosting profits and staff morale in the process.

Are Hotels Soundproof?
How to reduce noise in a hotel room: Radisson Blue Edwardian Hotel Case Study
The Situation
Read our Radisson Blu Edwardian Hotel success story for evidence of how our soundproof windows have a dramatic positive impact. The Edwardian is located at the top end of Tottenham Court Road, one of the busiest locations in central London.
The Solution
Until July 2017, the hotel received repeated complaints about the level of noise suffered by guests in rooms on the first floor. There were problems with one room in particular, which was located immediately above a set of traffic lights.
Hugo Carter’s SIlent Windows team visited the hotel and completed a detailed noise survey. We used the latest acoustic equipment to analyse the source of the noise and its impact on each room on that floor.
We took measurements accurate to the nearest millimetre and used them to create bespoke windows using hardwood and noise reduction glass that also made an aesthetic match with the hotel’s existing windows.
Previously, some rooms had a combination of single and double glazed windows and secondary glazing. Our response was to get rid of both and install our Silent Windows instead.
The Results: Happier Customers and Staff
Once installed the new windows and the noise reduction they delivered made an immediate impact on the hotel’s staff.
“The difference was unbelievable, absolutely amazing,” said Steve Holmes, the hotel’s chief engineer. “When I first went into the room, it was the first time I could actually hear the air conditioning.”
The results were equally impressive. The number of complaints from guests on the first floor dropped to zero and there was a tangible boost to staff morale and the satisfaction of guests.
That meant the Radisson Blu could offer a blissful night’s sleep in any of its rooms, giving it a discernible marketing edge over its rival hotels in the bustling heart of London.
Having started by installing Silent Windows in a single “test room”, within six months we had fitted 145 windows across the first floor of the hotel – and have since worked at three of the chain’s other hotels.
Liliya Encheva, guest relations manager at the Radisson Blu Edwardian, said: “The rooms on the first floor used to be the last rooms that we offered – we knew the potential risk of guests being disturbed by traffic.”
“Today it is a very different story. Whereas before there was always a high risk of a complaint, now we can offer guests any room on the first floor with a new level of confidence.”

A Snapshot of Benefits
For many people, the sound of a distant train in the night can be a soothing, comforting noise. If you are staying in a hotel close to a station or a busy railway line, however, it can be a lot less welcome. Trains now run late into the night on main lines and London Underground tracks. As a result, railway noise pollution is a serious issue for thousands of hotel guests. Soundproofing train noise away is a common problem we fix for clients.
However, at Hugo Carterpeace, we have a solution to noise from trains. We understand your desire for a restful night’s sleep, and our soundproofing windows will bring peace and quiet to your guests.
A wonderful example of such an installation is at the five-star Andaz Hotel at Liverpool Street Station, where half of the rooms in this Grade 1 listed building overlook the station itself. We have successfully helped the Andaz to offer its customers a five-star sleep.

Soundproofing Against Aircraft Noise in Hotels
The noise of an aircraft taking off or landing has become a familiar one to millions of people in recent decades. However, a location in central and west London underneath the flight path into and out of Heathrow Airport can present serious challenges to a hotel.
If your guests’ peace is being disrupted by Heathrow noise pollution, it is time to talk to Hugo Carter about finding a solution.
There are few things more satisfying than hearing a customer talking excitedly about the great night’s sleep they had in a room overlooking the runway – against all their expectations.
Road Noise Reduction in Hotels
It is rare to find a hotel completely untroubled by the noise of traffic – and virtually impossible in London. The sound of cars, motorcycles, buses and lorries is rarely absent from our lives, whether it is a constant roar, a steady hum or an occasional irritant. Road noise pollution can put a serious strain on people’s lives, making it difficult to relax and leading to disturbed or sleepless nights. The risk is that your guests will leave a damaging review that can have a serious impact on your business.
At Hugo Carter, we understand your need for less traffic noise in your hotel, and our soundproofing windows will improve the atmosphere and morale there.
The Grafton Hotel on Tottenham Court Road, which is part of the Radisson chain, is a perfect example. Our Silent Windows made a transformational difference for staff and customers there.

Fighting Anti-Social Noise in Hotels
Staying in a built-up area has many advantages for hotel guests, not least the proximity of their favourite shops or social destinations. But there are drawbacks too such as anti-social noise levels.
This can take the form of loud music, or the sound of people enjoying themselves late in the night, at a time when all your guests want is peace and quiet.
Anti-social noise is one of the most difficult types of nuisance to mitigate because of its high range of frequencies, from low bass sounds to high-pitched screams.
The good news is that there is a solution. Hugo Carter’s Silent Windows will eradicate virtually all the sounds of revelry and improve your guests’ experience hugely. A prime example of our work in one of the most challenging locations for anti-social noise is the Radisson Blu Edwardian, Hampshire Hotel, in Leicester Square.
Many rooms in the hotel overlook this lively square with its many restaurants, pubs, clubs, cinemas and buskers. Our Silent Windows enabled the hotel’s guests to enjoy the great view and proximity to entertainment while at the same time having a restful night’s sleep.
As in almost every hotel, some of the rear-facing rooms overlooked a restaurant ventilation stack and air-conditioning fans, which produce a lot of noise. Thanks to Silent Windows, these rooms are now in play without any need to discount the price because of noise.
